Alas, another successful Día de los Niños! Once again, thank you to all our members who showed up for volunteering and working hard to ensure smooth operations of this special day. A round of applause for our members current and old for their awards and continued efforts in improving the lives of others. We hope to be back in 2024 as strong and ready as ever. ¡Nos vemos el próximo año!
Congratulations to our 25 new members of La Sociedad for being formally inducted during our iniciación. Despite a few technical difficulties, we were so glad to share this very special moment with you all and your families. Holding their lighted candles during the evening ceremony, these new members pledged to master Spanish to foster peace and understanding. As newfound members of La Sociedad, they now join a larger community of students who are encouraged to continue their studies of Spanish and engage in service both inside and outside the Northside community. A special thank you to the members who volunteered during the event and, once again, felicidades to our new members! After a 3 year hiatus, Día de los Niños finally returned! We are so grateful for all of our members who volunteered and helped run this wonderful event. We hope everyone enjoyed the wonderful performances and are extremely grateful to have been invited to help run this amazing day. Thank you to our members who helped and can't wait until next year's Dia de los Niños! Congratulations to our 29 new members who are now officially part of La Sociedad! After being virtual last year and last semester, we are so grateful to have been able to hold our initiation in-person once again. Sr. Blease has been selected as a winner of the AATSP 2020 Award for Professional Distinction. Edgar Castillo nominated him for his passion for teaching, generosity, and exemplary service. Sr. Blease has continuously demonstrated these exemplary characteristics and has challenged his students as well as provided enriching opportunities for them to grow and excel. Sr. Blease, thank you for everything you do for your students. CONGRATULATIONS!

The Spanish Honors Society focuses on Spanish language excellence and promotes a continuity of interest in Spanish studies. As members of la Sociedad, these AP Spanish students were the recipients of amazing awards.
Edgar Castillo is a senior that is the winner of the Joseph Adam Award, which is a $2,000 scholarship. CONGRATULATIONS Edgar! Guadalupe Quinones is a junior that is the winner of the Bertie Green Junior Travel Award. This award includes an "all inclusive" trip to Ecuador. CONGRATULATIONS Guadalupe! This year, more than 60 Northside students spent the day in Pilsen organizing and participating in the Día de los Niños festival. It was a great opportunity to get involved in service provided to the Pilsen community and practice Spanish along the way. Thank you to all those who attended and check out the pictures below! President Oralia Quinones' Poem published in albricias and is 1st place in poetry Category11/20/2018 ALBRICIAS: THE STUDENT JOURNAL OF THE SOCIEDAD HONORARIA HISPÁNICA
The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica publishes the student journal Albricias which contains essays, poetry, and short articles as well as photography and artwork created by student members of the SHH. Albricias is distributed to chapter sponsors two times per year and is permanently archived on the website. Cash awards are presented to award-winning student contributions to the journal. Last spring, Oralia Quinones created an original piece in Sra. Torres' class as part of their poetry unit. She then submitted it to Albricias in order to be eligible for "Chapter of the Year" award. Northside was named 2018 Chapter of the Year and Quinones' poem was published in the November issue (below). In addition to the honor of having a published poem, since she won 1st place in the Poetry section, she will receive a $250 cash prize.
